The perks of being a wallflower
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a movie adaptation based on a book with the same
name written by Stephen Chbosky, who is also the director. For the main cast,
they chose famous actors like Logan Lerman (Charlie), Emma Watson (Sam) and
Ezra Miller (Patrick).
It tells the story of Charlie, an introvert boy in his first freshman
year. There he will meet two seniors, Patrick and Sam, who will make that
Charlie start living as the teenager that he should be. He will fall in love,
live good moments and not so good and much more that will make his school year
be like a roller coaster.
I find the movie enjoyable. Although it shows a typical high-school
picture, the storyline and the characters are thrilling and moving. The role of
Charlie is brilliantly performed. Logan did an amazing job showing Charlie’s
thoughts, his feelings, his emotions, and his expressions. It feels very real
and makes you get emotional. However, in my opinion, Ezra (Patrick) is
definitely the stand-out; his performance is exceptional. Even his type of
character is very typical and used in other movies; he manages to make it
unique.
My only criticism is the way that they show Charlie’s past; it is very
confusing and imprecise. Sometimes you didn’t know what is happening and which
is the true meaning of the scene.
I recommend it if you want to see an unusual movie of teen drama. This
movie not only consists of teenagers problems and loves that will be impossible
in real life, but it also talks about serious issues like abuse, homophobia,
child abuse, and toxic relationships. It’s completely worth it if you don’t
want to see another movie cliché.
